What is nearest MBTA to Mass pike if I wanted to park for day and take T? What is cost for T and parking?

Boston parking is so expensive. I am meeting friends for the day and wonder if it is easier to park and take one car or mbta into town. Visiting area of Museum of Art. One friend coming from Mass pike area. Park in Framingham and drive one car? Take T from somewhere? What would you do? There are 4 of us.

The Museum of Fine Arts has a garage. Why not call it to see

what it charges for parking?



As for taking T probably most people will tell you to park at Riverside on Green Line but there is also extensive parking at Woodlawn (one station up, on Rte 16 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital). There is also all-day parking lot at West Natick

(Purple Line Worcester Commuter Rail). I believe the lots range from $ 3 - $ 5/day.

You could park in Framingham at Park and Ride or just slip your car into a mall parking lot if it will just be a daytime activity like Museum and sinner. You would need to take a bus into Boston. Parking is probably about $11 (free at malls) and T is $2 each way.



Alternatively you could park at Riverside (Grove Street off Rt 128) and take Green line transit and get off at Huntington stop. Same prices



Easiest is to avoid driving to Museum area. It is always a problem to find even just one parking space near there because it is mostly Resident parking with enthusiastic towing and high tickets. Even the Museum's parking is pricey and if it is full you have a problem. Their web site even admits parking fills up fast ($22 per day.)

I will admit that it was a long time ago. I used to commute into Boston and picked up the MBTA near the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. This was about 25 years ago and many things have probably changed, but it was very easy to get into town and transfer to the train to The Museum of Fine Arts. Check the MBTA site and yahoo maps for the Newton area.

If you are going to drive, I would take the idea already mentioned by Hank and park in West Natick. I've never seen that garage fill up, so it might be your best bet. . .But, I don't think it's too terribly expensive to park directly AT the museum, so if you're going to split it between all 4 people, you might want to go for that!

The Renassaince Garage next to Ruggles station is very cheap and its only down the street from the MFA. I don't know which day you are going but if you follow this link and scroll down you will see the price two garages. You should call and double check the price.
