Taking the T to Boston from Maine?

I'm staying in Boston this weekend for 3 days. It's going to cost us $105 bucks to park our car at our hotel, so we thought we'd take the T from somewhere outside the city, and park our car there. We're staying at a Hilton in the Back Bay area (Boylston St, Fenway all near). What's the best way to do this (I need help with the T....it's confusing the heck out of me). I think there is a stop in Danvers or Newburyport or something....HELP. Thanks!

There is no stop in Danvers. There is a stop in Newburyport, however, but like the other poster said, it's likely to cost you more to do it than way than taking the Downeaster from Portland. Plus, I don't think there's overnight parking allowed at MBTA Commuter Rail parking lots. There definitely is not in the Beverly lots.

The Downeaster is a beautiful trip, but it is $24 per person each way to Portland. ($12 each way for kids 2-15) So it depends on who "we" is. If there are 2 people, it's probably about the same. Any kids, it's cheaper to park at the hotel.

MBTA is $7.75 each way to Newburyport, children 11 and under free. As for parking: I don't drive, but here's what the MBTA says about stations in that area: Overnight parking is available at the following facilities: Alewife, Anderson, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Wellington. Overnight rate charged at some locations - see station page for details. (http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/ , click on the station name.)

There's also a bus. C&J has free parking at some locations (like Newburyport). Round trip Newburyport to South Station is $38 adult. http://www.ridecj.com/about.asp

Jeez.. Why not take Amtrak's Downeaster right to North Station, then just jump on the Green Line "C" car to Kenmore.

Parking in Portland is $3/day
