Scenic places within 2 hours from boston?

What are some good places (natural attractions) to visit within a couple hours from Boston -- during a weekend.

The Berkshires in western Massachusetts.

It's safe to drive to the Whites at this time of year, but be careful and be prepared if you decide to do any hiking.

Oh, so many places! The White Mountains are great to drive in this time of year. The maintain the roads very well, and it has also been a mild winter. Also the Cape, Rhode Island and Maine coasts. Even the Berkshires are great. A longer trip would be Vermont, about three hours + out of Boston, but also gorgeous. Mount Washington is great. Enjoy as much as you can!!

The White Mountains are more than two hours from Boston. One scenic place I know of is where the movie, The Perfect Storm was filmed, Gloucester, MA, another would be to take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. If you have more time, Newport, RI which is beautiful and lots of things to do.

Take RT 127 north up the shore and stop in Gloucester** for some ''chowda" or fresh fried clams. I think the schooner Adventure does a traditional Sunday breakfast on board....keep on going to Rockport, home of the famous Motif #1 and a lovely typical New England village (an hour away from Boston).

The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem has become one of the top 20 museums in the country, check out their website for upcoming exhibits. They have a 200 year old Chinese house given to them by a family and reconstructed there in the yard.

**Before you get to Gloucester detour through Magnolia and drive around the shore there too, it will feed right back out to 127.

You can get anywhere in New England with in a two hour drive time....there are many things to do of a lot of things are closed for the winter. In case you will be there for a while I will tell you a lot of stuff to do and see. My favorite is driving to Mystic, Conneticut....they have a pretty good aquarium and seaport as well as you can go get pizza at Mystic Pizza from the movie with the same title, also there is Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods for Casinos. Of course New Hampshire is beautiful for foliage but that season has passed. Cape Cod is really nice but in the winter just gray and drab same as Cape Ann. Unfortunately most places close from around October to April except for skiiing. You can always go see American Stonehenge in NH, or drive up the Kangemangis (don't remember how to spell it) Highway in NH or take a drive around I think it is called the Katadin Mt. in Maine and see a lot of wildlife. There are tons of things to see or do in the warmer months. If you do head up to the NH area and want to catch a movie make sure you go to Chunky's which is a movie pub....if you want more ideas, need to know how to get anywhere, feel free to email me here in Yahoo. Don't go the cape....it stinks. Go North to Maine, NH, or Vermont. The Great Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is beautiful. Southern Maine is only one hour from Boston and has a beautiful rocky coast.

Not just the Cape, but the outer Cape (beyond Chatham). Similar ocean and beach on Rhode Island's south coast. Also if it ever snows (!!) there is plenty of real Currier and Ives scenery in north central Massachusetts into southwest New Hampshire.

Going to the Mt Washington area this time of year is fine since we have had little to no snow....even with snow those areas do a fine job of clearing the roads....lots to do in Conway NH as well...scenic and shopping....however...driving up the mountain range would be a grave mistake....treacherous this time of year due to unpredictable weather and wind....view it from a distance...stay safe and have fun!
