i think if god forbid the yanks get manny, matsui is gone. Damon will stay because he is a decent fielder. Nady clearly isn't going anywhere. That leaves bobby abreu's spot left to fill. It will likely be filled from within. Since Godzilla has 2 surgically repaired knees, his place will be dh. His future in NY depends on 1) manny staying the hell out of the bronx 2) jorge posada returning to his old ways and being able to play catcher rather than dh.

Johnny Damon is an over-rated turd. Major League Baseball is a joke. The players all use steroids and the owners with the most money pay the most to win. MLB sucks.

Given the stumbles that management has gone through this off-season so far, signing Damon had to be priority one. With Damon gone, the Sox need to make a big splash at one of their vacant positions. Unfortunately, they're now going to have to trade bodies to do it.

I think Epstein is not at fault, in fact, I think the deal would have been done if Epstein were still GM. My sense is the buck stops with Lucchino. I think that there is some measure of bad blood between Lucchino and Scott Boras going back to the botched A-Rod negotiations several years back.

That said, I think Damon will eventually regret this decision. Damon had close to god status in Boston; he's going to find it's not as friendly in NYC.
